Vitaly Spassky joined Russia Partners in April 2010 and is a Director responsible for covering telecommunications. Mr. Spassky brings his extensive professional experience in investment banking and operations to Russia Partners. He also currently serves as Head of Strategy at WestCall Telecommunications, a Russia Partners' portfolio company.
Prior to joining Russia Partners, Mr. Spassky was actively involved in developing two businesses, a beverage company in Switzerland and a self-storage company in Russia, and remains a board member at both companies. Previously, he was also an advisor to a cable telecommunications group in Kazakhstan.
From 2004 to 2007, Mr. Spassky served as a Senior Vice President of Moscow Cablecom Corp. (MOCC), a NASDAQ-listed company engaged in the construction and operation of Moscow's second largest residential broadband network. During his tenure, he was responsible for raising over $100 million in capital and for growing the network from 150,000 to 1 million homes passed and nearly 300,000 paying customers.
From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Spassky was a Vice President in the London office of Credit Suisse First Boston where he focused on M&A and capital raising transactions for the chemical and oil & gas industries. From 1998 to 2000, he worked in the London and Moscow offices of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette as an Associate in the Investment Banking Group where he covered the media and telecommunications industries. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Spassky worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at Merrill Lynch in the U.S., where he covered the healthcare industry. In his career as an investment banker, Mr. Spassky participated in approximately 25 live M&A transactions with an aggregate value exceeding $23 billion and raised debt and equity capital for approximately 10 companies with a combined value of roughly $3 billion.
Mr. Spassky holds a B.A in Economics and an M.S. in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University.
